Whoever said nice guys finish last has obviously never met Jeremy Fisher.
The light-hearted folk singer took the stage Saturday night at the Mod Club for a solo acoustic performance, endearing a seated sold-out crowd. Fisher is a former Juno nominee with a loyal fanbase; he supports War Child Canada, and clearly enjoys what he does for a living.
The Hamilton-born artist is a charmer; his faux-shy, boy next door persona is definitely a hit with the ladies – same goes for his suggestive lyrics on Lemon Meringue Pie: “Playing with the words on the tip of my tongue ain’t all I can do with the tip of my tongue.” Fisher used a loop machine to experiment with a clever new song entitled Laissez Faire, suggesting the approach could help stimulate both love and the economy.

A cover of Modern English‘s I Melt With You with opening act Hannah Georgas closed the show. While it was a cute duet, it was far from rehearsed – forcing Fisher to improvise many lyrics and skip the first verse entirely.
It would be all too easy to pick on Georgas – her self deprecating persona and lyrics about heartbreak, first kisses, and a two-week crush are not exactly unique; but on such a mellow night with an open mic vibe, she was an ideal fit. Her cover of Tegan and Sara‘s Call It Off was a satisfying finale, with an accompanying Fisher concealing his identity so as not to steal her spotlight.

It was a humble gesture; but from arguably the friendliest musician in Canada, would you expect anything less?
