Day 10 – Thursday, October 29

The Silence Has Ended … With a Press Release
Today is the day that I’ve been waiting for. Now I’m finally allowed to talk about my job at MuchMusic. It’s been a surreal time so far and I can’t wait for the rest. So far the response has been overwhelming & I thank everyone who has followed me on Twitter, joined my Facebook Fan Page & commented on my Blog. I filmed a little segment today about myself that you’ll be seeing soon, hopefully; it’s about where I’ve lived in Toronto since I’ve moved here from Vancouver in December. So many great memories and I really do hope I give the right impression with this first preview into who I am! Right now as I am writing this, I am also prepping for my first on air segment going live on Monday morning at noon with VideoFlow.

So since I’ve been silent the last few days, I thought I’d give you a short recap of the events that have been going on in This Life as a MuchMusic VJ when I last left off at Day 2.

Day 3 – Thursday, October 22

The Raveonettes Concert @ Phoenix
First show as a MuchMusic VJ with free tickets to The Raveonettes. Loved the live show & found it most interesting how the drummer played with a floor tom, a snare drum & a crash symbol – all while he was standing. The sound engineer for the Raveonettes had an unbalanced sound but as time progressed – the sound of the vocalists were finally heard. Overall they had an eclectic sound & diverse range of song styles – which made for a fun night with a packed house.

Day 4 – Friday, October 23
So You Think You Can Dance @ MOD

In continuing my blog about the VJs, who wouldn’t want to hear about Leah Miller? Her words of wisdom were “don’t get an ego”. According to her, I have one of the best jobs in the world, and couldn’t agree more. Although she is known to wear heels on TV, I was still taller. I’m kind of a giant.

Jesse’s new traditions at MuchMusic

“ShaBooze” – Based loosely of the Jewish “Shabbat” the day of rest. My version is the one where you take time for friends and you prepare for the hopefully relaxing weekend ahead. “Hagboozel” – a combination of the definitions of “Cheers”, “Hora”, “Peace Be With You” coined with the help of @ashleyapps & @adoary to celebrate friends and a good time. We have fun at work. We’re planning on celebrating every Friday.

Day 5 & 6 – VJ Weekend
Getting Ready

Now that I have a full time job – I decided that it was a good idea for me to finally unpack. I got my stuff out of storage and moved into my new place. I think I’ll be staying here for a while. While embarking on fresh starts, I thought – why not get some fresh gear. You don’t want to see me in the same stuff everyday. So I did a hunt down Queen Street West for the majority of the day before ending the night at one of my favourite patios in Toronto – at the Drake Hotel. The rest of the weekend was spent preparing and researching for the video throws this week.

Day 7, 8, 9 – Monday, October 26 to Wednesday, October 28
Meetings, Meetings, Meetings…

So this is when the lowdown and preparation really began for the official press release. I was in the studio every day and was ensuring that I got many of my practice video throws down. I met a few of the top 8 finalists in the VJ Search 2.0 and hopefully will have another new face around here soon. They’re really great so far and I look forward to working with one of them soon. Meetings ensued to talk to various teams & then I shot my first segment that will air in a week or so – with the theme pivoted around “Can Men Wear Jewellery?” Should be interesting to see.

And that’s the recap! Jay-Z will be in town this weekend for his concert. Come by the MuchMusic studios to check out a special edition MOD with Wale & N.E.R.D. while he co-hosts with Sarah Taylor. Maybe we’ll even get to meet! You know where to find me:
