We haven’t heard any new music from Jessica Simpson in a while. That’s because the singer has been busy with her burgeoning fashion career. Say what you want about her music or “reality-TV persona” but you can’t deny Simpson is a fashion and style icon. It turns out she’s a smart businesswoman too. In fact, just a few months ago experts predicted Simpson‘s clothing and accessories empire would earn $1 billion by the end of 2011 (one BILLION dollars!). She’s also released a line of jeans, purses and shoes and now Simpson is breaking into the big prom market.

The singer recently released a line of prom and special occasion dresses for teens and young women. The lineup includes strapless gowns, tiered dresses, patterned one-shoulder looks in basic black and white, and also bright blues, yellows and purples. The six-piece collection is available on DavidsBridal.com and ranges in price from $139 to $229. This is the first time Simpson has designed for prom. She hopes the line will take off with teens so she can design a new collection every season.
