The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced yesterday that the 2011 Juno Awards will return to its hometown of Toronto for the award show’s 40th anniversary.
The awards will take place at the Air Canada Centre. It will be the first time the Junos have taken place in Toronto since 2000, so expect some big crowds and hoopla surrounding the event including club shows, celebrity appearances and free concerts.
CARAS president and CEO Melanie Berry tells the Toronto Star: “You’ll see a lot more lead-up to the 40th anniversary and a lot more opportunity for people to come out and experience great music. That’s the key, to get the music out there … Toronto can’t be shown up. It needs to set the bar right up there.”
This years Junos will take place in St. John’s on April 18th and air on CTV.
