After Carly Rae Jepsen’s 2011 hit single Call Me Maybe became the first song to top the Canadian digital chart since Justin Bieber’s Baby in 2010, Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun decided to add the JUNO-nominated singer to the family.
Jepsen, 26, was performing today on MuchMusic’s New Music Live, before a pre-recorded video message from Bieber was shown, announcing to fans that Jepsen would be signed by Braun. The Never Say Never singer and his manager then called in as well, to wish Jepsen extra congratulations.
Jepson and Bieber tweeted a few messages this past week to build excitement leading up to the “surprise” on NML. Bieber took to twitter, saying “@carlyraejepsen @NML i think we should all tune in tomorrow MUCH to hear the secret. it should be good.”
Jepsen will become Braun’s third represented artist, along with Bieber and Asher Roth. The former Canadian Idol singer also just released her sophomore album today called Curiosity, and she’s presently on tour with Hanson. Her album can be found on MuchMusic’s First Spin.
Watch Bieber’s announcement below, and Jepsen’s music video for Call Me Maybe. You can also see Jepsen’s performance on NML here!
