I carefully unwrapped the packaging and took a breath. As I opened the CD, all my dreams were crushed as there was no golden ticket. It is a great marketing strategy as each hardcore Justin Bieber fan rushed out to buy as many CDs as they could in search of a golden ticket, which could score you a private concert in your backyard or a chance to be in one of his music videos. Could that be the reason for high record sales?
Close to half an hour, these eight tracks are all about love and growing up. That should be no surprise as his hit singles gave the first impression of these types of songs.
When working with Justin Bieber, I’m pretty sure you will get the exposure you want. Producers MIDI Mafia make sure people knew it was their work of art by whispering a tag in the beginning of their songs. The word “mafia” does not seem right in a Justin Bieber song.
Mentor Usher made a very small appearance on the track “First Dance” by adding a few adlibs here and there. The singles were best chosen as the rest of the tracks take time to warm up to but the CD does grow on you. Justin also impresses us by singing in a French version of “One Less Lonely Girl”, only a few verses here and there though and co-writing for three songs.
As for a rating, 3 stars out of five is not bad for a first release. Fans who can get past his looks and really listen to the music may be disappointed but the ones who are using their hairbrush as a microphone will be happy. In terms of being unique, he is, for being a fresh fifteen year old boy from YouTube who hasn’t yet gone through puberty. Since this release was so hyped, most fans have probably forgotten that there will be a part two to this album being released the week of Valentines Day 2010. Good job on the first release Justin, there is definitely time for improvement and since the fans are already smitten, you can simply do anything and they will enjoy it!
