Justin Timberlake has released another seven minute video (not everything can/should/needs to be a mini movie) for his latest single TKO off The 20/20 Experience Part 2. Much like the entire album, this music video was really only a good idea in theory, and even then I’m being generous.
The video stars Justin Timberlake, which you are reminded of in both the opening and closing credits ICYMI, and actress Riley Keough. The two put the dysfunctional in dysfunctional relationships, with the video flashing back and forth between domestic abuse and borderline non-consensual sex to an extended shot of Keough driving a truck with Timberlake being dragged behind. All great images of love and respect. Thanks again for this one, Justin.
I don’t know if Timberlake was trying to recreate his dark and emotionally charged video for Cry Me A River, which was thiiiiiis close to going over the edge to full on creepy for Justin’s stalking of his ex-girlfriend in the video, a Britney Spears look a like. Hopefully this new video for TKO isn’t mirroring anything in Justin’s personal life, but for those who are living with domestic abuse, I can’t see how this glamorization of it will help at all. And jeebus, the “acting” is such a hot mess.
This is how much Riley Keough’s character likes Justin.
This is how much she likes Justin while sitting on their couch. See the difference? Nope.
This is how Justin looks snuggling with Riley.
This is how Justin looks while kissing Riley.
Here he is starring into space.
It’s much different from his face when he’s starring at Riley.
Oh wait, no it isn’t.
Here he is having his hair pulled back.
And so on.
This is how Justin looks while fighting with Riley.
Here’s his reaction to her throwing their perfectly good salad on the floor. He must not be a greens guy.
Then there are the close up shots, just in case we missed any of the numerous expressions JT has been giving us throughout the video.
For the closer, here’s a terrified Justin Timberlake, who is about to be dragged off a cliff. JT is coming to snatch that Oscar, y’all.
