Everyone was anticipating the Hype Williams-directed video for Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” so when it finally dropped this weekend, we got to see what all the fuss was about: Kanye spitting on top of a cop car, Rihanna barely covered and of course, lots of lights, as the title promises.
But those lights and the opening credits caught the attention of, well, everyone who’s seen Gaspar Noé’s 2009 feature film Enter the Void. As you can see below, Ye’s new clip is an unabashed homage to the brain-burning psychedelics of Noé’s neon-flashing opening (designed by Tom Kan and Thorsten Fleisch), or a shameful rip-off.
Neither Noé, West or Williams has issued a statement about the similarities, but you can expect someone will address it at some point.
