Only pop duo Karmin can write a song about devastating heartbreak and make it sound so upbeat. Featuring lead singer Amy Heidemann’s impressive vocal range and well-known mad rapping skills, the video for Brokenhearted shows Heidemann brokenhearted over real-life fiance and band mate Nick Noonan’s actions, leaving her waiting by the phone and remembering better times together. Sometimes I think text messaging was invented to drive us all crazy.

Director Marc Klasfeld, who has worked with everyone from Avril Lavigne to Backstreet Boys to Destiny’s Child, teamed up with choreographer Richard Jackson to create a seamless storyline in three different scenes that played out in past and present time throughout the video.

The video and song both have a great Don’t Speak vibe and Heidemann’s ability to join Gwen Stefani on the very, very short list of people who can pull off crop tops adds to the complimentary comparison. I’m still not loving the faux bangs, but they’re growing on me.
