For the first time in the company’s history, MTV has awarded a musician with the title Artist of the Year. The first recipient is none other than Katy Perry, who has had a landmark 2011, matching Michael Jackson for the most number one singles from a single album for her disc Teenage Dream. Jackson’s album Bad is the only other record that has achieved five number one singles.
MTV execs revealed that Perry’s biggest competition in gaining the title was Adele, who’s track Rolling In The Deep was awarded Song of The Year by MTV.
