Kesha has lashed out at the lyrics of her own song. The outspoken singer has blasted her hit song Die Young , which has been pulled from a huge number of radio playlists in the US and Canada following the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, saying she was forced to sing the controversial words and always thought the content was inappropriate.
Writing a heartfelt message on her Twitter page yesterday, the 25-year-old hitmaker said “I had my very own issues with ‘die young’ for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.” The blonde singer also posted a message, saying “I’m so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy. And I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express. (sic)”
The controversy surrounding the song focuses on its title and chorus, which includes “Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young. We’re gonna die young. We’re gonna die young.” According to gossip website TMZ.com, the singer has been subjected to abuse about the song on her social networking site.
PerezHilton.com has now posted a radio interview with Ke$ha from earlier this year, where she goes into detail about the songwriting process for the track, saying that she re-wrote it multiple times. Regardless of whether Ke$ha chose the title and chorus herself, I think it’s more than safe to say that no one involved in the track ever meant to upset any listeners, especially the family and friends of the victims of Sandy Hook.
