Have I been living in a cave?! If this is old news to you, then so be it, but I only found out today that Kelly Clarkson’s “Never Again” is about her old relationship with David Hodges, who was a member of Evanescence but is now the lead singer of Trading Yesterday. Turns out David wrote a little rebuttal song titled “Just A Little Girl.” Also turns out this song was posted on the band’s MySpace. I went there today to have a listen, but - gasp - it’s GONE! I wonder why he took it down. I wanted so badly to hear it - especially with lyrics like:
I never
meant for you to feel this way
but Decembers
were never meant to be our graves
it’s not a question
of who was wrong and what is right
but time cannot heal
what you will never recognize
cause all of this is all that I can take
and you could never understand the demons that I face
so go ahead and bat your eyes and lie right to the world
for in everything you are
you’re just a little girl
Ouch. Tell us how you really feel, David. After much googling though, I have found the song posted on this blog, so if you are a fellow cave-dweller and are the only person who HASN’T heard it - go quickly!
And here I thought Kelly was still writing songs about Justin Guarini… Silly me.

trust me his voice makes the pretty good, albeit boring, lyrics sound pathetic and just like every song he’s previously done. I do love how the cheater always tries to say it’s not his fault though. I’m sure he was forced to cheat by God.
I actually like the Trading Yesterday song. The rest of their songs are pretty good too, David’s talented. It’s pretty sad that Kelly had to bring David’s wife into it though, I can why he’s not too happy about ‘never again’.
The sad part is that the version of Just a Little Girl that was up on myspace was just a demo, and yet the production quality is better than the whole of My December. Really.
David is an artist. His marriage and the person he loves most in the world was attacked for all of top 40 radio to hear. Is he supposed to act like that doesn’t affect his life? Would such a negative thing not be expected to inspire his music?
In the end, I think he’s right. Kelly’s lyrics are misleading (he never cheated on Kelly, btw.) and her intentions with this song were childish (just a little girl).
Trading Yesterday as a band is going through a bit of an overhaul. Their new material is going to be amazing and I personally cannot wait for it. If you like “little girl” keep checking the TY myspace to hear some amazing new stuff as everything unfolds
Katie, how do you know he never cheated on Kelly - I mean honestly? How can any of us really know the true story!
Katie’s closer to the source than you’d think.
Let’s hear it! What’s the real deal.
Also…Kelly’s been burned so many times it seems - she needs to learn some leassons.
david was with who is now his wife for quite awhile, and broke up with her. he dated kelly for only TWO MONTHS but realized he still loved the other woman and couldn’t stay with Kelly. he broke up with her and it caught her off guard, so she’s blown it all out of proportion. it definitely could’ve been a lot worse but he did the right thing instead of lying to kelly and two-timing her. and all kelly’s done is badmouth him since. but david is happily married with a child on the way so i’m happy for him.
Kelly never mentions David by name so David is the one making a point to let everyone know who the story is about. He’s doing this for the same reason he dated Kelly in the first place- publicity. Poor guy. Kelly refuses to drag his actual name through the mud so he has to point out to everyone who the ‘bad guy’ is and claim he is simply defending himself. If he would keep quiet, only the most devout Kelly fans would have known and only because they keep so close tabs on Kelly and she doesn’t date often and hasn’t had very many relationships. It was easy for them to figure out, but Kelly has always talked about her dating David in vague terms and never once has she dropped his name. Much to his dismay I’m sure.
Before Kelly Clarkson, I’ve never heard of David Hodges before. You Trading Yesterday fan(s? probably not) should be grateful.
Agreed - this seems like a bit of an attention grab. If Kelly doesn’t mention him by name in the song, and has been otherwise private about their past relationship (I’ve never heard a word about them dating!), why would she make it up? She doesn’t really need the extra publicity, but he sure does!
why the need for an attention grab when trading yesterday is a dead project. they don’t have any music for sale, they don’t have a single out, and they will not be releasing any other album. i’m sorry that you guys are ill-informed about most of this but you’re wasting your time arguing about it because you don’t actually know whats going on behind the scenes like some of us.
i, too, had no idea who david hodges was until this war of words started - so yes, i think it’s a complete publicity grab for david - and it’s totally working for him. because of this, i ended up on the Trading Yesterday myspace page and i actually kind of like the songs. he does “mellow-depressing” well. i think the song “shattered” is really good.
but that being said, i think kelly’s “my december” is decent too - well, the mellow depressing songs - like “sober” and “irvine”.
i love a good ol’ clash between artists. please continue to take sides… hehe
A dead project? It doesn’t seem so from the information the poster Katie gave to us. This is all a sad publicity stunt by Mr. Hodges. I’m sorry, but he fails at life.
The kelbots are at work again. David’s song is so much better than anything on Kelly’s CD.
“A dead project? It doesn’t seem so from the information the poster Katie gave to us. This is all a sad publicity stunt by Mr. Hodges. I’m sorry, but he fails at life.”
want to bet me all the money you make for the rest of your life that you’ll never see another release from that band or would you like to just be quiet and believe someone who knows more than you?
Aren’t they coming out with an EP at the end of the month? I know that a name change is in the works, but let’s not pretend that David Hodges is in the music buisness or that Trading Yesterday is going to stop existing, they have announced an upcoming name change, but they are still writing and recording music. So, I think the real story should do just that give the real story. And yes, I think just a little girl was written for attention, but I also don’t blame him for wanting to in his mind set the record straight, at least for his fans.
If David wanted attention, he could have just stayed with Evanescence.
i guess my point is that at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how many hits Trading Yesterday’s myspace gets, you’re still never going to see an album from them in a store, and you’re still never going to hear a single from them on the radio.
Wow. He’s the most pathetic sack of crap ever. He screwed her over, and she’s the little girl? HA! I for one think that Kelly’s song is WAYYYY better than this lame, pathetic excuse for a song. He’s a loser, and that’s all he’ll ever be. Keep rockin’, KC. (:
If anyone want to hear the rebuttal song (for whatever reason) you can hear it on Imeem. Here’s the link: http://www.imeem.com/mozyrox/music/thVAPWnX/trading-yesterday-just-a-little-girl/
