As soon as Elena decided against sacrificing herself and instead fight Klaus with Stefan and Damon, The Vampire Diaries has revealed the season’s big bad: British actor Joseph Morgan has been cast as the oldest, baddest vampire of the Originals and is on his way to kill Katherine and Elena!

Morgan makes his first appearance on April 21. It seems like forever…and it might as well be! After February 25th new episodes don’t return until April 8th.

The CW decided to go with a younger, unknown actor to use on the show. Morgan has a few British credits under his belt, and has shown Hollywood his stuff in Master and Commander, Alexander and the 2010 remake of Ben-Hur. He’ll bring a element of badness similar to Elijah, but whereas Elijah was suave and charming, Klaus will be something different entirely (I’m thinking more of a seducer, like Dracula!).

And he’s coming just in time: Elijah’s dead, Katherine’s out of the tomb, Alaric lost his ring to Jon, and Bonnie’s powerless. If there was ever a time to strike, now would be it!
