Wowee Zowee.
Yesterday was a Klaxons filled day – I just can’t get enough of these guys. I know, I know – you’re thinking, they’re just another one of those NME hype bands…but these guys are seriously terrific. Don’t let the false label “new rave” fool you – it’s nothing of the sort. Just purely danceable rock, that’s it!
Martin, Kate, Hannah & I went to the new Amp’d Mobile studio to check out a stripped down ‘acoustic’ Klaxons set in the afternoon that turned out to not be acoustic at all but instead a rowdy preview of what was to come later that evening at Lee’s Palace at their 19+ show. The guys played a five song blitzkrieg and the tiny crowd of about fifty people was absolutely loving it! After the show there was a small meet ‘n greet where we chatted with singer Jamie about the song “Gravity’s Rainbow” vs. the book (pretty much the toughest and most inaccessible read you’ll find, but if you can complete it, it’s well worth it!) and he asked us if we’d be at the show later on. Since I hadn’t yet snagged tickets before they sold out (ie: instantly), I told him I hoped to pick one up at the door. He said “Oh, well why don’t I just put you on MY guestlist!” so I gave him my name, not at all expecting that he’d remember or be able to pull it off.
When we got to the show we bumped into Metric’s James & Joules who were also there to see what all the fuss was about. I was floored to find out that I was actually on Jamie’s guest list. Wicked! OK…the guys TOTALLY brought it last night. The sold out show was RAMMED with frenzied dancers and moshers. It was fairly insane. Allow me to explain
From the first note everyone in the room was losing their minds. I actually had my drink knocked out of my hand so quickly/hard that half of it ended up IN my nose. Stage diving (literally, corkscrewing off the stage at a running start), major crowd surfing and full on bodyslamming throughout the entire one hour set. People must have been as impressed as I was by the performance because the merch table was virtually empty by the time I got to it. The guys assured the crowd they’d be back really soon – this is only the very start of their North American tour so other cities are in for a real treat!
You check check out all three of their videos in MuchAXS right here, so do it NOW!
