K’naan is demanding an apology from a South African newspaper after they quoted an unnamed source who said he is “difficult” and that he “complains and whines” on Sunday night.
K’naan’s song “Wavin’ Flag” was the official World Cup anthem for Coca-Cola and the article in the Johannesburg Times claims that he was difficult with the World Cup organizers. K’naan, who is also asking for the article to be retracted, tweeted on Monday, “It’s unfortunate when one of the biggest paper in South Africa can publish a rumor piece without ever qualifying any of their statements.”
The source also claimed that K’naan refused to perform in Alexandria Township while he was in South Africa because he was scared for his safety. K’naan also refuted that claim over Twitter saying that he was never even asked to play a show there and said, “I prefer playing in the townships cause I enjoy the energy and vibe.”
