Whether or not you were a Korn fan, you’ve got to admit that it’s impressive to see them still churning out albums 20 years into their career. The band will be releasing a new album, The Paradigm Shift, next week and you can hear it on MUCH’s First Spins now! Not convinced, though? Here are five good reasons why you should hit play now:
1. These guys gave us one of the best songs and music videos of the ’90s.
Remember Freak on a Leash? The part-animated, part-live action clip that followed the a bullet through houses, a child’s birthday party and an office, back into the animated realm it originated from was mind-blowing stuff back then. And, let’s face it, it’s still a pretty wicked video and iconic song. That beat-boxing thing in the middle of the track? Amazing!
2. And they’ve continued to release albums.
The Paradigm Shift is the band’s eleventh album. How many bands have even released half the amount of albums as these guys nowadays? Think about it.
3. They’re not afraid to experiment with sounds.
In 2011, Korn released The Path to Totality, an album that embraced the dupstep and EDM trend, featuring guest appearances from Skrillex, 12th Planet, and Kill the Noise. It was a bold move for the band and although The Paradigm Shift finds the band back in their comfort zone of heavy rock, their last album was a testament to their ability to tackle new sounds and trends that are currently around them.
4. The Paradigm Shift is the return of guitarist Brian “Head” Welch.
After leaving the band in 2005, Brian “Head” Welch, an integral part of Korn’s career, returned to the band as a full time member and this album also features the guitarist back in full swing.
5. Because you always need a hard rock band featuring guys with dreadlocks.
You just do.
