Twihard hearts are breaking around the world today. Kristen Stewart has issued a public statement regarding the recent rumours of an affair between Stewart and her Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. After pictures of the two together in what look like a variety of romantic embraces hit the cover of US Weekly on Tuesday, K Stew has decided to respond publicly, saying “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”

Stewart and her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson have reportedly been together for three years, though the two have remained coy about their relationship status until recent months, when they began engaging with one another more affectionately in public.

News of the affair has pushed Sanders, the 41 year-old married director and father of two, into the spotlight. Saunders has remained quiet on the topic, while his wife, Liberty Ross, deleted her Twitter account this week.

Robert Pattinson has also remained silent in the wake of news of Stewart’s affair, but the two will soon be spotted together when promotion for the final Twilight film, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits theatres this November. That shouldn’t be too uncomfortable. Yikes.

UPDATE: Saunders has now issued his own official statement to People Magazine, saying “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
