Calvin Harris has already admitted that his hit single We Found Love wasn’t originally intended for pop star Rihanna and that he had two other singers try out before her, but now we know who one of them was. British songstress Leona Lewis says that she was Harris’ original pick and even says that her version, which was recorded and never released, is better than Riri’s.
“I worked with Calvin and we recorded We Found Love. But he went touring with Rihanna and she ended up releasing it,” she tells the Daily Star. “I didn’t commit to it because I wanted Trouble to be my first single so I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna. It was the same version and production but mine’s better.”
We Found Love became a number one hit in 25 countries and has sold 6.5 million copies to date.
Lewis claims to still have her recording of the song, but says that she will never leak it because “that’s so unprofessional.”
“There are so many songs I’ve recorded, only to hear other people singing them. It happens all the time.”
She adds, “It was a bit annoying to see how big a hit it was around the world but if I’d released it maybe it wouldn’t have done as well.”
