The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge shows no signs of slowing down and we are all enthusiastic about this highly successful campaign to bring awareness to an often forgotten disease. But as we go in to almost a month of challenge videos, people have started to get very creative. I’m sure you have seen the upside down ice bucket dunk, the dry ice bucket challenge or the full wedding party dump. But the creative take on the challenge that is getting the most attention today comes from Leonardo DiCaprio.
The well known environmental activist is in Northern Alberta right now investigating how the Alberta tar sands project is effecting the neighbouring First Nation communities. So accepting David Beckham’s nomination, Leo took the challenge with a group of local community members. But, he also nominated a few people that have high stakes invested in the tar sands project including our own Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
In an e-mail to the Canadian press, Harper’s Press Secretary said, “”The Prime Minister was challenged by others last week and posted the following message on Twitter: @pmharper: Thanks everyone for the #IceBucketChallenge nominations. Laureen & I will be making a donation to support the @ALSassociation.”
