Eminem is one prolific guy, but maybe not the best with words during interviews. This past weekend, the rapper – who returns on November 5th with his new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 – made a quick appearance on ESPN for an interview, but boy was that awkward.
The reason behind his visit was because the rapper’s new single, Berzerk is going to become the official song of ESPN’s Saturday Night Football telecast, so of course Eminem talked about music and a bit about sports. Or at least that’s what we think he was talking about.
Anyway, let’s dissect every painful second of this interview, shall we?
Okay, let’s start with ESPN broadcaster Brett Musburger introducing Eminem. WHAT WAS HE DOING THERE? STOP IT, EMINEM. FOCUS.
As soon as Musburger finished his intro, Eminem kind of snapped out of it, apologizing. “Sorry, live TV,” he remembered. PLEASE. STAY. FOCUSED. “Live TV freaks me out a little bit.” Yes, you’re freaking us out right now.
Musburger then repeats his question about working with Rick Rubin. Normal question. He follows that up by asking him how long it takes him to shoot a music video (ESPN showed a sneak peek of the upcoming Berzerk music video), how many hours and how many takes. Awkward question.
“It’s a lot of takes, a lot of sitting around, waiting, but it’s cool. If the video comes out, then I guess it’s working,” Eminem answers. Awkward questions, boring responses, terrible TV. Journalism 101, kids.
CUT TO BREAK.
Okay, we’re back. Maybe it’ll be better now…OH WAIT, EMINEM STILL LOOKS TERRIFIED.
So, Eminem, what are you most excited about in regards to the new album? “Nothing.” Ummm… “I’ll probably be most excited to just be done with it.” We’re pretty excited to get to the end of this interview and be done with this.
Okay, a sports question. This should be cool. A little less awkward, Eminem is giving a response that’s more than 10 seconds, we’re getting somewhere!!
Oh no. Wait. Eminem’s talking about a fantasy announcer team and fangirling over Musburger, what? He’s completely ignoring the other guy next to him… Musburger returns the compliment.
