Let’s Not Forget About Franz, Mmkay.

November 12th, 2009

Not unusual for Alex to levitate.

Knowing you/Canada as a whole, you’ve most likely heard “Take Me Out” or “Do You Want To”, two of Franz Ferdinand’s biggest (and what some people would say – only) hits. Nod if the previous statement completely and utterly defines you as a human being in your entirety. Exactly. Nah! – what I’d really like to do is explain why the (incredibly, fantastically) talented band, Franz Ferdinand, is really all that.

What I mainly think makes them so great is their uniqueness among all other bands. While they definitely have the ability to stay inside the mainstream rock quo, we often see them go outside of their “norm” and incorporate some other genres, instruments, and vocal techniques – some of which are rarely seen under the “rock” umbrella. Stretching from alternative rock, to electronic, to indie rock, to dance, to post-punk, there really isn’t an excuse not to be reeaaalllyyy into them!

Next: LIVE. FREAKINN’ AMAZING, K? (Sir) Alex Kapranos (I would say) is the king of dance moves.. next in line to Michael Jackson. They’re actually insane. His spins. Twirls. Maneuvers. Backflips. Yeah. Besides Alex’s exquisite dancing, vocals, and guitar…ing, Nick (on guitar/keyboard/synth), Bob (on bass), and Paul (on drums), really do put on a fantastic show. You’re really sweating buckets after one of them. Just take a look (here).

Last, and most certainly not least…blood. ¿Qué? Blood is their follow-up album to Tonight: FF that includes remixes of 9/11 songs from Tonight: FF. Sweet stuff. Pretty much features synth and other electronomobobic instruments – so yeah, for those electronic music lovers.. this is for you! Blood pretty much sums how good this band really is. If they can release an almost-pop song (“Take Me Out”), and then carry on to produce an album of Blood’s nature. Well that’s BLOODY (pun intended) fantastic!

If I haven’t convinced you yet, then I would like to leave you with a few song recommendations. The following may not be their most well-known stuff, but they’re certainly F-to-the-ANTASTIC. Pretty much the A-Z of their stuff, including a bit of all genres, etc, etc. Take a listen. Hopefully if you haven’t already, you’ll come to appreciate the sheer beauty that is Franz Ferdinand!
