Life Is A Highway (Robbery)

July 12th, 2006

It was raining this morning, so I took a cab cause I’m a pansy these days (pants can’t get wet! aaaaghhh!). A re-make of Tom Cochrane’s “Life Is A Highway” from the Cars soundtrack started playing on the radio, and I wanted to bail ship immediately. Why? I’ll tell you why. This cover was EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL.

Please tell me the point of covering a song and not twisting with your own flavour? A perfect example of a GREAT cover song is the Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly”. They took a classic and transformed it into another classic. That’s how you do it, punks.

Let’s not even get into frame-for-frame and word-for-word movie remakes.

All together now: WHAT’S THE POINT?!

I would like to point out it’s cool for cover bands to play perfect song replicas. I’m cool with that. I guess.
