Lily Allen’s had quite a comeback with her first album in five years entitled Sheezus. Yes, that is a play on Kanye’s Yeezus. He’s totally cool with it. With the recent release of the album, the British singer is making her rounds in the US to promote the record, making a stop at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night.
Performing her lead single Hard Out There, Allen brought her signature sass to the studio stage, complete with four backup dancers shaking their booty, similarly to the controversial music video. The song itself is a feminist statement calling out the hypocrisy and sexism in the music industry, all set to an incredibly catchy tune. Even though the song’s video, as well as her album in general, has drawn some mixed reviews, Hard Out There‘s message still stands out, especially when she delivers it with such sarcastic joy. As she sings in the song, “And if you can’t detect the sarcasm, you’ve misunderstood.” As Broad City‘s Abbi and Ilana will agree, that’s some boss ass bitch behaviour.
