Before they were One Direction they were five guys competing solo on X-Factor until Nicole Scherzinger convinced them that they were better off together as a group. Imagine their surprise when the suggestion worked and their individual powers combined made them into one of the fastest rising boy bands as of late. But I’m not here to talk to you about boy bands, I’m here to talk about Canadian indie music which has seen its own One Direction-esque story in Eight and a Half.
Eight and a Half is made up of Justin Peroff of Broken Social Scene and Dave Hamelin and Liam O’Neil of The Stills. These key players in Canadian indie music might not call for crying girls and suggestive hip thrusts, but they just might blow your mind anyway. Their self-titled debut album Eight and a Half is a journey through eclectic rock with a deep indie sensibility of the same ilk as Geographer or Passion Pit.
Favourite tracks: Scissors, My Forevers, Two Points
