The king of covers
September 26th, 2012
Often cited as ‘Toronto’s best kept secret’, Lindi Ortega has released her latest album, Cigarettes and Truckstops, to both critics’ and fans’ praise. Making this year’s long list for the Polaris Music Prize for her EP Little Red Boots, Cigarettes and Truckstops shows off Lindi’s beautiful country twang and striking abilities as a songwriter.
With heartbreak as the major theme of the album, Lindi makes you want to pull on your cowboy books, throw back a few shots of hard liquor and sway to her songs. Think Amy Winehouse meets Taylor Swift. Lindi’s sound and lyrics are reminiscent of country music great Dolly Parton, a similarity not lost on Ortega, who name checks her idol in the album’s title track.
No stranger to the road, Lindi has spent time touring with Kevin Costner and Brandon Flowers from The Killers. She is currently on tour opening for kd lang.
