No Doubt premiered their new song Push and Shove on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning, a track bassist Tony Kanal described as the band’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. A declaration like that may seem grandiose, but for fans who have been waiting since 2001 for a new disc, big expectations need to be met.
Reviving the dance hall sound of 2001′ Rock Steady, No Doubt’s title track off their September 25th release Push and Shove is packed with all the ingredients that made them one of the biggest bands of all time; heavy bass, catchy chorus, Gwen Stefani’s killer pipes and a grrove that is impossible to listen to while sitting still.
At first listen, Push and Shove is not of the radio chart powerhouse caliber of the band’s debut single Settle Down, but it does pack a darker, more sombre punch that is classic No Doubt. Featuring Busy Signal and Major Lazer and produced by Diplo, No Doubt appear to be striking the perfect balance between trying new sounds on the album, while maintaining the elements that made them a household name.
