Fans of electronic music, Metric, or things bootylicious… feast yer eyes. Errr. Your ears. Feast your ears. About 6 months ago I happened to stumble upon a fantabulous band known as Cowboy X. Awesome name, amiright? Anyhizzzzlee, after listening to them a bit, I knew that they would turn into a favourite of mine. They really are pretty great – definitely a new style. Probably from the future, probably not, dunno. Their new single, “Analogue Droids” has recently been released, so take a listen. ANYWAYS! I managed to snag a short but informative (!) interview with them, located below (kinda hard to miss). So, to you (one, maybe two people): the readers of the Much blogaroonie, I leave you with one message… R E A D!

Interview after the jump!
First off, who is your inspiration? We know you have a very distinct sound, but who shaped you into the band you are today?
Well, Karen is a big Tori Amos fan as well as being really into The Clash and Tool. Myself and David have always been hugely into the Pixies, saw them recently in Dublin and it really did bring back memories, they really were a huge influence. As it goes though, we all listen to pretty much everything! I’m a big Lady GaGa fan at the moment.
Cowboy X – What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before? Do you think it will stick from now on?
He was obscure character in Sesame Street. He went round a town called Sniddler’s Gulch and covered everything in ‘x’s. You can check it out on Youtube, its quite funny.
How long have you all known each other? How did you meet? When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?
David and I have known each other since we were in school. We played music in different bands. I met Karen in 2004, although I didn’t ask her to try out singing with us till a bit later. It took a while to get to know Karen, she’s a very mysterious girl. But we knew her voice was perfect the minute we heard her sing. I met Wayne the same time I met Karen, but he only joined the band in 2006.
Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?
Thanks for opening a can of worms! The set changes constantly and we’re always wondering what songs go best together. We do play a couple of covers… sometimes. I love covers, the other 3 are bit hot and cold on the subject. So sometimes we play them and other times not. They’re usually for encores. We’ve played “Hanging on the Telephone” from Blondie. You can also check us playing a cover on an Irish TV show called the Podge and Rodge show playing Kim Wilde’s “Kids In America”. We do a kick ass version of PJ Harvey’s “Dress” too.
Oh, and I forgot, we recorded a version of the Pixies “Gigantic” for a charity album called Sparks n’ Mind.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?
We all write! Well actually Wayne doesn’t. David is by far the most prolific. Karen writes most of the Lyrics. And I’m the most talented… ha ha. Topics? As I said before, Karen is very mysterious and she’s not telling.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
It’s definitely become more electro! And live we’re still trying out different ways of getting the music across. We’re excited to get back out playing actually as we think we’ve finally cracked Gabbi. We have always been unhappy with the way comes across live, but when we’re back touring the new album it will hopefully be spot on.
What’s your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune or are you cool with how everyone is at the moment?
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we’d just like to be able to do it as a full time job. It’s a real treat when people appreciate something you’ve created and performing it live is a bonus.
While I’m sure all of your music is close to your heart, have you produced anything that you’re especially attached to? Why’s that?
It sounds corny, but I think at the moment we’re just totally attached to the new album.
How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
You can buy physical copies or our first album Who Are These People directly from us by going to our MySpace page.
Our new EP is up on itunes its called Analogue Droids and the title track is from the forthcoming album Meant To Be Machines.
The other 2 singles from the album “Break Me” and “Japanese Toy” will be up there shortly.
Any last words?
We love Canada.
