So Live Earth has come and gone. Were you one of the reported 2 billion who watched from home? I don’t plan on adding my 2 cents about whether or not the concerts were a good idea, there will be plenty of that over the coming days. Bottom line - Global Warming is a worldwide problem that we should all be aware of. By now we all should at least be taking steps in our own daily lives to curb our energy consumption. That being said, I would like to comment on a few of the performances I happened upon, I didn’t see very much but here are my highlights and very very low lights.
Foo Fighters = Awesome (said in a Bill S. Preston, Esq. voice)
Jack Johnson = Radical (said in a Jeff Spicoli voice)
Fall Out Boy = S to the U to the C to the K to the E to the D (said like Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock) - sorry, I can name 30 bands from Atlantic Canada that kick this band’s ass live any day. Fall Out Boy, please go away.
Madonna = LAME (sung in a generic high pitched voice) - spitting out Motherfu@*er to the crowd and rock and rolling her guitar against her amp for feedback just looked stupid. With all due respect to that woman who deserves ALOT of it for her musical career… honey that was just weak.
The Police featuring Kanye West = MORE LAME (said in a Matt Wells asshole voice) - The Police and Kanye West both have more than made a case in their careers as meaningful and important artists. But this performance made me die a little bit inside. It was horrible. I though I was watching some dude rhyme for the first time trying to freestyle with a bunch of old dudes at the Red Knight Tavern in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Now THAT would have been entertaining, but not 2 incredibly relevant musical names wanking it up for an audience of billions around the world, even if it was for a great cause. Dudes, next time leave the rock and hip hop collaborations to the professionals, because it honestly made me wish Nelly and Tim Mcgraw would appear.
At least now for all the repeats of Live Earth I can do my part to conserve energy by turning off the TV before I ever have to witness this crime against my senses again. Oh Sting, I bet the Clash wouldn’t have done that to me.
