August 7th, 2011

Holy moly, today was a great day two.
Starting off our morning with a tiny sleep in was perfect and then moving over to the park for around one was great. We got caught in the rain for the beginning of the festival during Phantogram’s set, but it was the perfect ambiance for their music. They sounded so full and smooth and I’m totally checking them out again next time they’re in town.
We then moved on to check out Skylar Gray, who was really cool and super fit (physically). She has a powerful voice and won the crowd over with her own medley of Eminem and Rihanna’s Love the Way You Lie, Diddy Dirty Money’s Coming Home, and Dr. Dre and Eminem’s I Need a Doctor. It was really well done.
Moving on to The Chain Gang of 1974 (my most anticipated act of Lollapalooza 2011) who we interviewed before and after the set and in between danced our faces off. Seriously, that was a PERFECT performance. I can’t wait to share some pictures and some footage we shot. Due to the rude “supervisor” security guard who suffered from what I call “little man syndrome” we were not able to get total access as planned but hey, TCGO1974 were totally cool with working around them and you will love the edit once it’s all done.
I then went to go check out Local Natives, who you can’t really go wrong with at a festival.
Onto Ellie Goulding who was adorable and rocking live and not to mention, wearing an adorable outfit (leather shorts with white crop). She won my heart over live. The girl can SING and definitely pulls out some swagger.
Now, Lykke Li is always beautiful live but man did she sound great today. She was funny, quirky, danced a bunch and was wearing a perfect outfit (black leather kimono and knee highs- she’s always dressed swell). I watched alone and I was perfectly okay with that. Totally worth it.
Lastly, Eminem. I only caught the first half of the set, but Bruno Mars came out and they sang their new song together, which sounded pretty banging! I’ve never seen so many arms waving back and forth in one setting EVER. I bet you the head count was bigger than Gaga last year at Lollapalooza. No seriously, it looked that way. Eminem is one popular dude.
Other Highlights:
- Met some amazing Torontonians at the beginning of the day and can I just say, Canada, you are full of wonderful people. Gosh, I’m grateful to be in such a pleasant country.
- Ate a pulled chicken sandwich with some freshly squeezed strawberry lemonade.
- Ruined my outfit by wearing my trainers instead of some super cute sandals. Function over Fashion is totally allowed post 6pm at music festivals. Seriously, the beginning of the day counts. That’s when everyone is sober and actually cares to see good outfits.
- Saw Taylor Momsen, Danny Masterson (That 70s Show) and many other cool bands hanging around backstage.
I’m off to the after parties so wish my voice and feet good luck. Seriously, they are both dead and make me sound like chain smoker and look like I’m walking on broken glass.
Gotta love Lolla!
