Liz Online Ep. 1: Who’s the next Lady Gaga?

September 15th, 2010

Hello my darlings,

So clearly you all are wondering what is going on with MuchMusic with all the renovations. Basically we are going to be bringing you a whole whack load of awesomeness this fall with a brand new studio, brand new shows and sparkly new shoes. Okay maybe not new shoes, but it was worth a thought!

I am so excited with all the cool new stuff I get to do on the Web and I want this to be a forum for us to have fun with, so feel free to throw suggestions my way in the Comment boxes and let me know what YOU want ME to cover/talk about/dance to, etc.

This blog features Neon Hitch, who is one of my most anticipated talents of 2011. I say 2011, not 2010, because her album will hopefully be released then and when it is, it will take over!

I highly suggest you read into her bio because out of all the up and comers, she has quite the special little gem of history behind her. I got to catch up with her for the first time in Chicago and as per usual she was equally as lovely in person as she is live.

Favourite Neon tunes:

Neon Hitch-Black & Blues
Neon Hitch-Animal
Neon Hitch-Burial (Miike Snow Cover)
Neon Hitch-Cooler Than Me (Sia vs. Mike Posner Cover)

Active Child

Pat Grossi is one voice that I refuse to tune out. Starting his vocal journey in all boys choirs, Pat has proved to many blogs and publications that he is more than worthy of a position on their “best of 2010 up and comers” list’s. Often compared to the great talent of Owen Pallett, my own ears tell me he has a little Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) similarities in his voice with the digital techniques of Electric President or even Postal Service.

(Note: I do hate comparing artists to other artists because no two artists are the same and I never want to offend anyone or misplace them on the map.)

Regardless, Active Child is innovative and has only just begun. He plays TONIGHT at The Mod Club in Toronto with a great band called School of Seven Bells. If you cannot make it tonight, don’t worry, this one will be back in no time. High five and heads up for Active Child.

Favourite Active Child tunes:

Active Child- When Your Love is Safe (this song reminds me of a dream of lying in a field of flowers)
Active Child- She was a Vision
Active Child- Wilderness

Marina and the Diamonds

I cannot get enough of this wonderful woman. She is by far one of my favourite artists of 2010 and the best part? She has only just begun to “wow” us. While she is often compared to Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, I feel both Marina and Florence’s unique sounds are extremely hard to duplicate (hence the reason I love them). Marina stands for her rights with her witty lyrics, with a sound that reminds me of a dramatic opera pop theatre show (I have no clue if that makes sense but that’s the beauty of it). “I am Marina and you are the Diamonds”

Favourite Marina tracks:

Marina and the Diamonds- Obsessions
Marina and the Diamonds- I’m Not a Robot (original and Clock Opera Remix)
Marina and the Diamonds- Oh No!

Their new video for Double Vision is a refreshing burst of creativity and proves that behind this duo comes a powerhouse of dedication, hard work and most importantly, fun.

The boys are hitting the grounds of North America, bringing you sweet shows this fall featuring Hellogoodbye, Neon Hitch, The Secret Handshake and our lovely Canadians Down With Webster.

Be sure to check them out on their tour!

Montreal,QC- October 24
Winnipeg, MB- November 7
Saskatoon, SK- November 9

That’s all for now my loves, until next time…
