Lights feat. Shad K & Holy F*ck – Everybody Breaks a Glass

The always wonderful and talented LIGHTS is coming out with a brand new album and while there are little details about the release, I have heard rumors that this album is a true showcase of her talent. This track features two other Canadian artists (Shad and Holy F*ck), who in my opinion are equally talented. This collaboration is a beautiful blend.

Active Child – Playing House (feat. How To Dress Well) and Hanging On

Active Child’s latest album You Are All I Need is due out on August 23rd and it is one of my most anticipated albums of 2011. I recently had the chance to preview half of the songs and already I can tell it will make my list of top albums of the year. If you like Bon Iver, School of Seven Bells, White Sea, M83 etc., you will most likely enjoy Active Child. Prepare yourself for something fresh and innovative.

Stars – Dead Hearts (LightsoverLA Remix)

When I first heard this song I thought it was Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) featuring _______ but then was nicely surprised that it was Stars remixed by LightsoverLA. It’s beautiful and perfect background music for an afternoon of work. The original track was even featured on last night’s episode of Degrassi!

Frank Ocean – Strawberry Swing

Twenty-three year old New Orleans native and Los Angeles resident Frank Ocean is a member of the alternative hip-hop collective OFWGKTA and let’s just say he is one of my favourite up and comers of 2011. He has written music for Beyonce, Justin Bieber, John Legend and has worked with Pharell Williams and Nas. In other words, he’s a big deal. His debut mixtape/EP Nostalgia, Ultra is a perfect summer soundtrack. Sexy, smooth and clever, Frank Ocean is fresh and ready to take over. Keep your eyes peeled for him. This track samples Coldplay’s Strawberry Swing and talks about the end of the world. Listen and love.
