Miley, Charlie and more!
January 16th, 2014
From Justin’s Beliebers to Austin’s Mahonies, Katy’s Katy Cats to Rihanna’s Navy, Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters and of course, One Direction’s Directioners, boasting a legion of fans that have named their loyalty to an artist is nothing new in 2014. One artist, though, is refusing to embrace the status quo.
Lorde has publicly spoken out against her fans attempts to name themselves, with ‘the Disciples’ as the top suggestion among the New Zealand teen’s followers. Kind of sacrilegious if you ask me. Plus, why wouldn’t fans suggest ‘Royals’ or ‘Teamsters’ after her two biggest hits? I’m getting off topic.
Anywho, Lorde recently told the UK’s Look Magazine “I find it grating to lump everyone into a really awkward, pun-centric name. People joke about it on Twitter, ‘You should call us The Disciples.’ Never! I have discouraged it. I’ve tweeted multiple times, ‘No fan name, I do not condone this.’”
I love me some Lorde. She’s the voice of a generation. She’s breathing fresh, feminist air into mainstream pop. She’s showing young girls that having self confidence doesn’t mean getting naked in front of a camera. She…isn’t really named Lorde.
Is this not a bit hypocritical?
