Last night I headed over to the “Legendary” Horseshoe Tavern to see local Power Pop band Love You To Death. Originally from Burlington/Oakville and originally called The Pettit Project they recently moved to Toronto and changed their name after getting tired of people mistaking Pettit, a street name in Oakville, for Petit, “small” in French.
No mater where they’re from or what you call them, Love You To Death have been a mainstay of the local 905 scene for almost 10 years. They’ve been featured on an episode of Radio Free Roscoe, opened for Fefe Dobson and Hedley, had their video for 3 Cheers 4 Me played on this very station a few times, and are best buds with bands like Boys Night Out and Silverstein. Singer/Songwriter Scott even recorded and produced Boys Night Out’s first two albums. With all that “cred” I’d say it’s safe to call this band legendary.
So… the legendary Love You To Death performed a solid seven songs at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern on a Monday night to a crowd of about 50 people and it was a good time. They performed some of their oldest songs, a song they had never played live before and everything in between. Frontman Scott was awkwardly cracking jokes as usual in between their synth heavy (they have 2 people playing 5 keyboards), distortion heavy brand of insanely catchy power pop. This band has it all, 4 singers (2 guys and 2 girls), a drum machine, 2 keytars (keyboards that you hold like a guitar) and live drums that groove so hard it’s impossible not to dance (or tap your foot if you’re old and jaded like me).
Here are the songs they played, most of them are on their latest CD “Super Awesome Best Party“.
