Finding individuality in music these days is about as easy as keeping track of celebrity DUIs, and well, let’s be honest - that ain’t easy, folks. After a while the abundance of cookie cutter, shit filled, garbage - err, music - gets a little sickening. But on the plus side it make the discovery of new music that much sweeter!
As Matt so eloquently pointed out in Interviewing Ben Harper, sometimes it’s a person’s personality that draws you to certain music in the first place. Enter Birds of Wales, four super rad dudes who call our sweet little city of Toronto home. After meeting front man Morgan Ross a short while ago, I decided to give his band a little listen - after all, the guy was super cool, and I figured he’d earned it by putting up with me and my “dancing” to Bloc Party.
So in true lurker fashion, I checked out their MySpace. Not only was I totally surprised but I was refreshed. I’ll be honest, I was expecting some screaming, maybe even a little wailing, you know the typical “my gf broke up with me and my soul is bleeeeeeeding” bullshit, BUT what I found was folk rock. Simple, pure and honest, all things we need a little more of these days.
So even if this style’s not your thang, the guys are rad and totally deserving of the few minutes it takes to do a little lurking of their MySpace. In fact, while you’re there, poke around the site a bit, you never know what good local music you’ll stumble upon!
Check it out and lemme know what you think…or better yet if you dig em’ spread the word.

They sound good! Cool that they’re canadian!
I saw these guys open for someone last year but I can’t remember who. Rilo Kiley maybe? They were alllright.
I’ve got to say, I’m not all that convinced. They’re cute and they’ll get some airplay on some hits station somewhere and that’s alright. They’ve got a niche for sure.
very refreshing music only in canada
