Wale is a DC rapper who hasn’t really been on my radar at all – until this week that is. He has been generating quite the buzz due to his latest musical offering: The Mixtape About Nothing.

What makes this note-worthy is that this “mixtape” of Wale’s is inspired by one of the best sitcoms of all time, Seinfeld, which was a self-proclaimed show “about nothing.”

The album starts off with Wale rapping over Seinfeld’s Opening Theme bass beat and finishes with the End Credits, with lots of Seinfeld-inspired songs in between including sound bites of dialogue and Jerry’s stand-up routines from the show. Even Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes an appearance as herself! I know – it sounds odd, but it works. The stand out track though is The Kramer which takes a dark turn utilizing snippets from Michael Richards’ infamous racially-slurred stand-up routine and his awkward televised apology. So don’t let the album title fool you – this is definitely a mixtape about something.

Wale is offering the album for free download and you can give it a listen at 10deep.com, which is slightly ironic since on The Opening Title Sequence, Wale states, “What’s the deal with this rap stuff?/Since Napster the sales been crashing” – but either way, I’m Listening To This Guy Or Else, free or not.
