Mariah Carey scores an $18 million contract with American Idol

We reported yesterday that Mariah Carey has officially signed on as a judge for the next season of American Idol, but TMZ reveals today that her contract for one season is $18 million, making her the highest paid judge on reality TV.

Carey’s $18 million trumps previous judge Jennifer Lopez’s $12 million and The X Factor‘s Britney Spears, who only makes $15 million. The point is, though, all three of them still make more than most of us will in our lifetimes — where do I sign up to become a reality TV show judge?

Carey also Tweeted this to fans: “It’s gonna be so much fun working on American Idol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! – MC”
