I have never really been into Kid Rock. Never really disliked him either; I just kinda didn’t care. He is one of those artists that always floated past my radar; if I had to pick a side I probably would have said he just kinda annoyed me.
May I just say that his new album Rock N Roll Jesus is really, really good. It’s a shame really, he has such a persona as this cocky egomaniac, and of course his public marriage and most recent brouhaha with Tommy Lee have always overshadowed the fact that Kid Rock is a really talented musician.
Even if you are not into his style, you can’t deny that the guy was an accomplished DJ and rapper in Detroit for 10 years before he had a hit; he has filled in for James Hetfield and sang with Metallica, performed with Phish, Hank Williams Jr, Willie Nelson and so on.
Among musicians he is very well respected and he has earned every bit of success he has seen in music, a real life story of a guy who worked his ass off, stuck to his vision and made it happen. So, I said his album is really good and I stand by it. As a rock and roll album. A FULL album that mixes southern rock, outlaw country and even the hippity hop, it’s worth a listen. I have never listened to a full Kid Rock album, have never owned one…but trust me, they don’t make rock and roll records like this anymore.
Check out my interview with Kid Rock on The Loop Weekend this Saturday @ 11am ET and Sunday 11pm ET on MuchMoreMusic.
