Matt Wells: Slash = Film Buff?

When I got the new Slash autobiography, the FIRST thing that struck me was that he seemed to be a big movie guy.

Mostly it was the line on the cover that says: “It seems excessive…but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.” While it isn’t EXACTLY how the line goes, it IS from my favourite movie, Pulp Fiction: when Vincent (John Travolta) is talking to Mia (Uma Thurman) at Jack Rabbit Slim’s about an overreaction to a foot massage. I figured Slash must at the very least be a big Pulp fan.

As I read the book I realized he references a lot of movies to describe situations…for example, he was talking about scoring some heroin and said it felt like something out of the French Connection. Anyway, I was correct to assume he is a movie guy and I was right about the Pulp Fiction line too…he told me he knows that script front and back so we hit it off pretty quick…then we talked about drugs, music and GNR. Super cool guy, easily one of my favourite interviews ever and the book is great.

Check out The Loop Weekend for my interview with Slash this Saturday @ 11am ET and Sunday 11pm ET on MuchMoreMusic.

  3. Wow, is it just me or does Slash look exactly the same as he did almost 20 years ago when “Appetite For Destruction” came out!?
