See the latest episode of Where You At, Baby? with Tiffany this Sunday at 9pm ET on MuchMoreMusic!
Yo,
So I never thought I’d FINALLY get to Nashville; Music City, the home of Hee Haw and the Grand Ole Opry, a place where some of the great song writers of our time like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings have so much history… I never thought I’d go because of ……… Tiffany.
Yes that Tiffany, “I Think We’re Alone Now” Tiffany. She is the latest Where You At Baby artist that we spent time with, and she lives in the back woods of Tennessee man, as small town America as it gets.
Just like every trip so far, I came away with a new understanding and respect not only for the artist but the time of which they existed in the industry and pop culture. Tiffany is remembered for the mall tours, jean jackets and that crazy shoulder dance… and as a young teen star who didn’t write her own songs. I’m here to tell you in terms of a performer, she has a totally kick ass voice and does write her own tunes. In the backwoods of small town Tennessee I sat around a campfire with Tiffany and her friends, some serious country singer/songwriters and we had our own songwriters circle… some original songs and some covers. I heard Miss Tiffany do a version of Bobby Mcgee that would blow your mind - really. One that actually saved her and her friends asses one night in a small town biker bar, it’s that good.
As you will see from the show, I did partake in the nightlife of Nashville, myself and my partner in crime Tim the badass camera dude went to Tootsies which is pretty much the Country CBGB’s. What you will also see from the show is how I even did some Nashville karaoke… the clips you see may or may not be of me (curses to our joker producers). But regardless how could I NOT check out the night life in one of the most storied cities in the history of music. I stand by my decisions!
Which brings me back to Tiff (yeah I call her Tiff). Tiff is writing songs in a singer-songwriting style as well as some electronic/dance vibe stuff of which she still tours and has always been her bread and butter. She actually put out an album in 2000 called the Color of Silence that got amazing reviews but because of some industry shite never really got released proper. Music is still her passion with plans for a new home studio so she can record whenever she is inspired with her friend and writing partner Tommy Wright, who is the real deal Nashville singer/songwriter. She has a new husband (her 2nd) and a 15-year-old son who she had when she was like 21.
Her favorite movie is Jaws; she likes to shop in thrift stores and never had a stylist back in the day which is largely the reason for her horrible clothes back then in her videos (aside from the fact that it was the 80s). She told me a story about after one show back in the heyday when her manager came in and laid about 60 grand on a table showing her what she had earned from that night’s show - not bad for someone not even 18 at the time.
Tiffany was super cool to hang with and is living a really simple life with no expectations for future musical stardom, just a love for music and a passion to find herself as a songwriter. And I can’t stress enough, one of the best voices I have every heard. I also can’t stress enough that you should not always believe what you see on TV… please take that advice into anything from this episode that makes me look like I can move like a man who has been possessed by Prince and Rupaul.
Werd,
