Diddy said it was an “experience,” that he was inspired, and wanted to rap again! One of my favourite websites was quoted as saying “Beg, pillage or steal, get into that show”…
And…well yes, it might have been just a lot of hype, it was difficult to ignore. So despite the rain and cold weather I went to see, for myself, what the GLOW IN THE DARK TOUR was all about. Unfortunately because of this thing called work I missed Lupe and N.E.R.D. – on a sidenote the latter stopped by MOD and were unlike I would have expected despite what I had heard. Anyway I caught Rihanna, who did her thing supported by her boyfriend Chris Brown, who made an appearance during N.E.R.D’s set crumping to a song or two. And then after a 25 minute set change out he came…but before we get to Kanye…
Febe Dobson. Do you remember her? Well if you don’t, look her up. She’s from Toronto and signed to a major in the U.S. Now when Rihanna came out her and Fefe were a world apart but as Rihanna’s career has progressed and Fefe disappeared their swag became more and more similar. So I couldn’t help but wonder watching Rihanna and knowing that Fefe had made a name for herself among industry bigwigs down south, also having had a video played on MTV in New York, whether or not Rihanna stole her swag. And whether she did or didn’t, the uncanny similarities between them might have left our fellow Torontonian up shit creek!
And on to the Louis Vuitton Don… Mr. West. Kanye put on one of the best live performances I have ever seen!! It was a show, not a concert, A SHOW…with incredible showmanship. You can really tell he put a lot of time and effort into coming up with a concept that people would really enjoy.
It’s funny, I’m sure you all heard about him getting upset with the crew about losing his screens during one of his shows. Perez blogged about it among others… but after having seen the show it’s nothing without them… it was amazing to see someone who takes so much pride in his craft and really paid attention to every detail.
The show had so many great moments but one of the most memorable for me was the heart-wrenching moment when he sang My momma couldn’t get through to me, there was a pitch in his voice and you just know that he must really miss her, as would anyone…
I guess the only weird part of the show was he had backup singers that weren’t actually on stage, you could hear them, you just couldn’t see them, they were obviously behind the set… which made it very apparent that it was a one man show… but hey, he held it down like very few I’ve ever seen!
