Matte: Another Tom Post!

Yesterday “the man”, the giant (despite his heigh)t was in the building… and he’s not near as short as most of you might have imagined. So here is my minority report – pun intended. I’m such a nerd.

Anyway, yesterday was the first time ever I got to meet Tom Cruise, and it’s no wonder he’s been as successful as he has… whether he was genuinely that nice or just playing the ‘game’ at this point I’m not sure it really matters. He signed more autographs and spent more time with the audience then any other artist I’ve seen during my time here, and this is arguably one of the biggest celebrities in the world… not some indie band or rapper that’s sold a couple records and is suddenly too cool for all the attention. He was one of the coolest people I’ve ever met, minus the fact that there was restrictions on what we were allowed to talk about, but hey what would a publicity company be if they didn’t try to protect their actors. They did tell me I wasn’t allowed to ask him to dance, but if you’ve seen tropic thunder I had to ask him anyway. Going against publicity company guidelines always seems to work out if the artist leaves happy, if you go against the publicist and piss off the artist you’re in a lot of shit. I’m rambling…. the dopest part of the experience was that Tom feels everyone should be addressed by their name when being spoken to, and while we all want to be addressed by our name, would you really expect Tom to call you by your name? Well he does, he learns everyone’s name before he meets them so when he does, you’re on a first name basis, I guess my admiration comes pretty cheap…

…the best part of the experience had to be when he had left the studio, and he had somebody come and get me because he felt we should be taking press pictures together. Lesson learned, I guess anytime you make someone feel like they’re important they’re going to like you… The Ego… it is the part of the self that will undeniably always affect an encounter!!
