Matte: Pop Montreal

While Thanksgiving weekend is usually one filled with family, food and relaxation, considering my family is on the other side of the world I decided to go a different route! Not quite sure which one we took, but somehow I wound up in Montreal Friday night for Pop Montreal.

So if you’ve never heard of it, it’s basically a musical festival very similar to NXNE. There’s something for everyone in venues littered all over Montreal! I was there for two days and saw a number of bands but the two that really stood out were these two:

Earlimart
As of late I’ve been infatuated with females at the helm of indie bands. Metric … Feist … Bjork … Rippen Kitten … The Knife … all great bands and although this band isn’t necessarily lead by the only female member, her vocal contribution is a great touch to their melodic sound.

Let’s Go To War
This electro-influenced hip hop band was definitely an eye opener - it was their first show, so it wasn’t as polished as some of the other shows I saw and from what I gathered they’re still working on finishing their album. But I definitely look forward to hearing it and seeing their show once all the kinks are worked out!

Look to get away - Montreal is a great city and Pop Montreal is a great reason to go!

  1. Hey Matte.

I was at the Earlimart show too.

They were indeed awesome. Hope you had a chance to catch the opening band Office.

It’s like The Cars meets Of Montreal but power poppier with more syths and hot hot ladies.

I recommend to all to check them out.

Idiotjed: I ‘m just getting into Office! I heard “The Ritz” not to long ago, and ever since I keep spotting their name in various blogs. Think they’re on the rise?!
