…and we resolve to try not to laugh. Sorry. It’s cruel to giggle at someone’s ambition. Goals deserve encouragement and working towards them deserves props. Correction: Mad props.
We’re entering 2008 bright-eyed and bushy tailed – the non-cynics at least.
It’s hard to see now because of the haze created with all this talk of New Year’s resolution, but [obvious deduction alert!] a lot of people won’t follow through, nor do they have any intention to actually follow through on their claims of self-improvement, future tense.
So while it’s hard to take M.C. “U Can’t Touch This” Hammer seriously (remember how he gold-plated his home?), his ability to follow through is better than a lot of people making vows this time of year.
The 90′s rapper is reinventing himself as an entrepreneur (following stints as a blogger, an activist, a pastor and that guy who squandered away his US$33-million fortune on horses, helicopters and Hammertime gates and declared for bankruptcy in 1996.)
Hammer told the Associated Press of his new online business venture, a website which he hopes will rival YouTube. Um. Yeah. Good luck with that?
But we do wish him well. DanceJam is hoping to bank on the popularity of internet video sharing by playing host to uploaded dance content, ranging from performances to step-by-step instructionals on how to get jiggy with it.
Of course money is a factor and Hammer hopes to make some (all the better to help pay off his US$14-million debt with) by way of internet advertising, a market that is expected to rake in US$27.5-billion this year.
The website is set to have its debut later this month and we’re really rooting for the reverential M.C. After all, it’s better than if he tried to stage a musical comeback (“U Still Can’t Touch This”?)
Plus, if this moves ahead, he might eventually post a Hammerdance how-to. Good as demos like this one are, you can’t beat the real thing. It’d be enough to merit bringing our parachute pants out of retirement.
Not that you really need an excuse for that.
