Kay, so we’ve totally ranted about how amazing these dudes are before, but I think they need some more love.
There’s music that makes you laugh…makes you cry…makes you want to throw expired milk bags at some people…
….then there’s music that makes you want to dance.
And you want to dance, right? RIGHT?
Cut Copy is the answer, I tell you!
Dan Whitford (the resident DJ of the band) started Cut Copy back in 2001 as a solo project, and produced an EP under the name. His taste for a synth-pop sound with undertones of popular music from the 70s&80s attracted drummer Mitchell Scott and bassist Tim Hoey, allowing the band to meld the electronica beats with a harder rock sound.
Their debut was released in 2004, and from there they began to build their name. They’ve toured with the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and Daft Punk, and are known for colourful live performances.
I fell in love with them in 2008, shortly after their sophomore disc, “In Ghost Colours”, released. They continued their synthpop-rock sound on the album; tracks like “So Haunted” and “Lights and Music” began trickling into electronic DJ sets and your local Aritzia store (trufaxxx), and they’ve gained their share of indie popularity. It even hit number one in Australia, the homeland for Cut Copy.
Cut Copy hasn’t been on the scene recently, so I’m hoping they’re working on some new material for 2010. In the meanwhile, I’ll continue to jump around my bed and create various versions of a lottery-winning happy dance as I listen to them.
So I says to you, I SAYS TO YOU… give them a listen.
Please?
For me?
Oh, alright. At least do it for your ears!
(Psst…there are a few free download links on their MySpace)
