Once again ladies and gents it is time to place your bets on what album you liked best and see how it stacks up with those who make the big decisions. What I mean to say is the 2009 Mercury Prize short list nominees have been announced! Confused? Let me break it down.

- It’s all about the best albums that have come out over the past year by British or Irish artists
- The short list is made up of the “12 Albums Of the Year” and the winner/numero uno will be announced in September
- It is Europe’s number one arts prize, in terms of coverage and influence
- The music on the album is the only thing they take into account, so it has gotta be a mighty fine piece of music!
- It is kinda like the Polaris Music Prize
- Past winners included Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, and Klaxons

So ready to see the top twelve albums?!

Bat For Lashes – ‘Two Suns’
Florence And The Machine – ‘Lungs’
Friendly Fires – ‘Friendly Fires’
Glasvegas – ‘Glasvegas’
The Horrors – ‘Primary Colours’
La Roux – ‘La Roux’
Led Bib – ‘Sensible Shoes’
The Invisible - ‘The Invisible’
Lisa Hannigan – ‘Sea Sew’
Kasabian – ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’
Speech Debelle – ‘Speech Therapy’
Sweet Billy Pilgrim – ‘Twice Born Men’

Ah! So many great albums! I wouldn’t be able to just pick one out of those twelve (I’m kinda bad at making decisions) but my top picks from the list would have to be Bat For Lashes, Friendly Fires, La Roux. I do love Florence And The Machine too though! And The Horrors! Ah! See?! I told you I’m bad at making choices.

Who would you pick? If you haven’t heard of any one them before I recommend you check them out! They’ve been named the top 12 albums of the year! That’s gotta mean something good right?
