M.I.A. has taken numerous jabs at Lady Gaga in a recent interview with NME.
In the cover story feature, the British rapper is blunt in her accusations, going as far as saying Gaga “sounds more like me than I f**king do!”
While we can agree that Gaga does sound exactly like M.I.A. on Wale’s “Chillin’,” her claim feels a little too aggressive and unsportsmanlike.
Still, M.I.A. goes on to point out that she thinks they share more than just a label [Interscope in the U.S.]. She adds “people say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic.”
Yeeouch!
It doesn’t end there. Asked whether visuals are an important part of her music M.I.A. said, “Very. But it’s not like “Haus of Gaga” [laughs]. Me blindfolded with naked men feeding me apples and shit.”
She didn’t stop at Gaga though. M.I.A. also takes a pot-shot at Twilight, admitting that she was asked to contribute a song to the soundtrack. Her answer? “Luckily Jimmy [Iovine, chairman of Interscope] had a beef with the Twilight people, so he stepped in and told them to f**k off.”
