You may know the two members of Minor Alps from their respective decades-long careers. Juliana Hatfield has made music with a number of bands including Blake Babies, Some Girls and the Juliana Hatfield Three, not to mention another set of records released under her own name. And Matthew Caws has spent 20 years fronting indie-rock band Nada Surf. Separate, they have carved out one hell of a career, but now it’s time to combine those talents into a new project.
Minor Alps is partnership of Hatfield and Caws, their first official collaboration. Although the two have sung on each other’s projects before, this band and their debut album Get There, is a true meeting of the minds. Sharing writing credits as well as vocals, Minor Alps is an album that explores the brilliant and honest songwriting skills of both musicians while veering anywhere from acoustic melodies to ’90s guitar fuzz, all tied together by the seamless harmonies of the two intertwining so effortlessly.
For fans of Hatfield and/or Caws, this is the dreamiest of dream match-ups, but even for those who are unfamiliar with their previous works, Minor Alps is a solid collection of songs that can serve as a starting point into discovering the back catalog of two great artists.
