In case you didn’t just hear, this year’s MMVA People’s Choice Nominees have been announced, so get voting! Here’s the lowdown on all the voteworthy artists!
How could someone as petite as Avril Lavigne stand up to someone as girth-gifted as Belly? Same goes for iPod darling, Feist? Also that guitar strummin’, City And Colour? And that Promiscuous girl, Nelly Furtado? Simple: with the power of your votes.
Avril Lavigne When You’re Gone

Avril Lavigne was so affected by her People’s Choice award win at last year’s MMVAs that she shed a few tears on live TV. With this public break to her punk exterior, the small town Napanee girl let all of Canada get a glimpse of vulnerability. That vulnerability continued to show with the release of the lovelorn ballad, When You’re Gone. But don’t be fooled: Mrs. Deryck Whibley hasn’t gone soft – she’s just shown us that she’s human.
Belly f. Mario Winans Ridin’

Last year, Belly made his mark on Canada’s hip-hop scene with the release of his debut album, The Revolution, which emphasized his political beliefs with such straight-forward, hard-hitting tracks like History of Violence and Revolutionary. But as serious as he may seem, Belly isn’t afraid to show off his lighter side – so he teamed up with Mario Winans for the killer track Ridin’, which just goes to show that no matter how crazy this world might get, sometimes you just gotta cruise with the babes and rock out with your belly out.
Feist 1234

2007 was the Year of Feist. With the release of her album The Reminder, she was nominated for 4 Grammys and went on to win 5 Juno Awards. And oh yeah, there was also that little iPod commercial that had everyone dancing along (which even got a hilarious spoof on MadTV). You know you’ve made it when critics are throwing awards at you – and now it’s your turn to do the same. On the count of 4….
City And Colour Waiting…

Alexisonfire may have been what threw band member Dallas Green into the spotlight, but his solo project City And Colour is what has propelled him to celebrity status. The bearded, tattooed Canadian with the acoustic guitar just released his latest album, Bring Me Your Love, and the title couldn’t be any more fitting for the People’s Choice category. With the simple strum of his guitar, and the sweet crooning of a few lyrics, he is truly asking for your love. So will you bring it? He’s Waiting…
Nelly Furtado Do It

When Nelly Furtado released her album Loose, some were quick to discard her as a “sellout” for stepping away from her folk and rock roots in favour of a more R&B pop sound courtesy of Timbaland. Those skeptics are now taking notice since that very album has spawned hit after glorious hit. So, on Do It, when she sings “Don’t you know how much I want you,” she may very well be talking about your votes, so that together you can continue to prove her right. So very, very right.
This award is entirely up to you guys, so go vote for your favourites from now until the night of the MMVAs (Sunday, June 15 @ 9pm ET)!
