This is the People’s Choice category where there will be the biggest smackdown. We have popular rock bands (Hedley, Simple Plan, Billy Talent) up against finger eleven (who have seen their share of MMVAs) and thirsty newbies illScarlett. There will be blood, oh yes, there will be blood…
Hedley For The Nights I Can’t Remember

Hedley has been going strong for quite some time now, however this past year was especially eventful. To wit: they rocked last year’s MMVAs, rocked this year’s Junos, and even rocked Barbados (bare-ass naked, I might add). Even when they slowed it down a bit with the plaintive, earnest love song, For The Nights I Can’t Remember, it still made everyone sit up and listen. See? No matter what they get up to, clothed or un-clothed, they simply rock.
Simple Plan When I’m Gone

The Montreal boys of Simple Plan are back this year to take back what was once theirs – they won this category in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Three years later, with their latest entry, When I’m Gone, they are back and bigger than ever – but do these perennial favourites still have what it takes to take home the gold? Well that’s up for YOU to decide.
Billy Talent Surrender

Billy Talent is a force to be reckoned with – since their start in the 90s, they have not laid down to rest. Interesting fact: they got their name from the book Hard Core Logo. This is important because (a) they are pretty hardcore, and (b) they have talent – a lot of it – and are hoping that you recognize what they bring to the table (and to music stations and stages all over the world). This past year they brought us the song Surrender which is a fitting title since they definitely refuse to do just that – it’ll be a fight to the finish.
Finger Eleven Falling On

Last year, finger eleven blew the roof off the MMVAs – literally. Their killer rooftop performance of their massive hit Paralyzer was full of fireworks and guitar riffs that made the entire nation pay attention. Thankfully, the building remained standing; however, their follow-up single Falling On demanded the same attention and, ever since, finger eleven has been soaring.
illScarlett Nothing Special

Nothing special? Yeah right. These Mississauga boys have quickly proven that they are anything but. With their second studio album which was released in 2007, this reggae-influenced group is well on its way to making a name for itself – the boys are down-to-earth, true to their fans, and constantly ready for a party. They may be the newbies of the MMVAs, but they have shown they are willing to give it all they’ve got. And to us, that’s mighty special.
This award is entirely up to you guys, so go vote for your favourites from now until the night of the MMVAs (Sunday, June 15 @ 9pm ET)!
