MMVA08: Avril Wins Favourite Canadian Artist

The votes are in! Avril won the award for People’s Choice: Favourite Canadian Artist and thanked all her fans in a specially taped message all the way from Europe where she is currently on tour.

You wouldn’t know it from this pic, but she was ecstatic to win. Although she didn’t cry tears of joy this time (like she did last year when she won this very same award), she cracked some genuine smiles.

Nicely done, Avril - when it comes to the devotion of your fans, you truly are a force to be reckoned with.

this was the worst mmva ever. dallas was robbed. who gives a crap about avril? there were no good performers. the aftermath thing is overloades with people and too choppy and laggy to watch and you guys made a big deal over the whole ‘phreak615′ marketing thing and all for nothing..or maybe its because you knew the show would suck this year. an overall disappointment and MAJOR overhype.

The aftershow performance was a free for all. It was good to see the bands let loose and do pretty much what they wanted. I’d rather watch a show like that then the MMVA’s. I’m older now (22) and popular music is decided by the youth that watch Much all the time. So I’m happy for the people that enjoyed the MMVA’s but I’m stoked that they had an aftershow for a type of person like me. As for Dallas getting robbed, it still comes down to who the young people of Canada voted for. He has an amazing fanbase and you shouldn’t be too upset. If it was some sort of Canadian Rock Music awards show I’m sure Dallas would get an award.

MuchMusic is alot of pop music, Avril is also Pop. Alot of younger people watch Much that like Avril. It sucks when you would like other mature artists to win but this competition is swayed by people who love chart music. I can’t wait to see the day when there is an popular independent music channel.

Christine, I am one of the young people. I’m 15 but apparently my ‘peers’ have s**tty taste. thanks for the support but i’m bummed.

I know Nicole I was pretty bummed too. I guess taste is a matter of opinion. I listened to some music when I was younger that other people considered crap and made fun of me for. Example 98 Degrees, or the Backstreet Boys. Don’t laugh. At the same time I listened to Blue Rodeo or The Tragically Hip. People also made fun of me for liking the music that their parents listened to. Everyone is going to have something bad to say about some sort of music. So who are we to say what is right. I know I agree that I don’t like what Avril has turned into at all. I liked her second album and thought it was heartfelt but then she came out with her newest one, it didn’t seem genuine at all (the reason her second album was pretty good may have had to do in part with the assistance she had from Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk). Well they had a falling out anyway and even though I don’t know Avril personally I don’t really care for her much at all anymore. I think “Hot” and “Girlfriend” made her lose whatever credibility she had. For me anyway. When we have our own show we’ll make a People’s Choice Category for “Meaningful Song Lyrics” or for “The Most Realistic Artist”. Don’t worry Dallas wins in our minds, and if the majority of Canada doesn’t agree it doesn’t matter. I guess those who do agree are going “Against the Grain”.

Wow theres a lot of immature ppl commenting..it really sickens me…anywho congrats to Avril for he big win last night…I voted :D!! But I was disappointed that she couldnt actually be there in person and perform :(…I agree it was probably one of the worst MMVAS ive ever seen…Hilary Duff wasnt there but yeah…congrats to Simple Plan and Hedley and Fall Out Boy who I voted for also!!
